Environment focus of Red Tape Challenge

Environmental issues have become the focus of the Government’s Red Tape Challenge, looking at how regulations impact on businesses.

The Government says it remains committed to being the greenest government ever and has no intention to reduce environmental protection or our climate change commitments. But under the current climate this needs to be achieved in the most effective and efficient way, avoiding placing burdensome regulations on businesses.

Are there alternative ways these policy goals be achieved, without too much regulation getting in the way? Are voluntary codes of practice the way forward or can regulations help attain some of the more stringent targets?

The Red Tape Challenge is looking for peoples’ view on how environmental climate change and energy regulations work in practice. Can transparency of environmental or energy date be improved, are there alternative approaches to compliance and how can we change behaviour?
